How do I know your greatest source of stress is due to you not living according to your values?

Because it's my greatest source of stress, and I've seen this truth in the lives of hundreds of people I've coached.

Values can seem a little nebulous or squishy at times. But when you cross your values, or someone crosses your values suddenly it seems very tangible.

Many of us value balance in our work and personal lives, but how many times have you worked long hours for too many days, months, or years to the point where you know you are out of balance? That's stressful.

Many of us value being valued for our contributions, but how many places have you worked where you felt your contributions weren't acknowledged or your compensation wasn't reflecting your contributions? That's stressful?

We all have values around life, work, and relationships that are so important to us that when they are out of alignment, we feel stressed, disengaged, or de energized. Living according to our values and working in ways where our values are shared, we have higher engagement and more energy for all that we do.

I've coached many people who once they left a company started waking up to how stressed and unhappy they were in their jobs. Having distance opened their awareness that they were out of balance and had value misalignment in too many areas of life that were important to them.

Getting back into alignment with our values creates a tremendous amount of positive energy because we are tapping into our truest selves. We are honoring the deep wisdom within ourselves. We are living according to our values, and it feels empowering and whole.

My encouragement to you is that if you are feeling stressed, ask yourself a couple of simple questions.

• Is there something I value that I'm in misalignment with my thoughts, actions, or inaction?
• Is there something I value, that others are crossing or ignoring with their actions?

With this insight it will give us an indication of where we can begin to bring ourselves back into living according to our highest values. What a beautiful place to be.
